Technologically deprived

Well. At Write Club on Wednesday Mer and Julie were joking about the power possibly going out due to the high winds we had here. I laughed with them, but it never occured to me that our power might go out here. Ha!

Driving home was the most eerie thing, and it took me forever to figure out why I was getting so creeped out. By the time I got to the first Whitmore Lake exit, I understood: there were no lights on anywhere! So I drove home in total darkness except for my headlights, and found our apartment complex dark.

Fine. So, yesterday I sat around curled under a blanket and read A Game of Thrones (which I'm nearly halfway through now, it's excellent). Finally the power came back on around 4pm. But the cable didn't. Including the cable modem.

So, I spent last night inflicting some of my favorite movies on my mom. ("Much Ado About Nothing" she liked--I think I'm making a Branagh fan out of her, slowly but surely.) I wake up today. Still no cable. I managed to get online via a modem and a free internet connection. Very frustrated. Charter says they are aware of the outage and are working on it. They need to work faster, damn it.

Incommunicado until further notice. If you need to reach me, you'll have to call me or text message me--there's a link from my user info.
