Baaaaaaa.
Everyone else is doing it...
1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
I'm not proud of this one: I went so far as to buy OTC sleeping pills while considering suicide.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Haven't made any in years. Nobody ever keeps them, so what's the point?
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
I started to say no, then remembered baby Jesse. So yeah. Joelle, from my 7th Sea group. We're not super close, but she's a friend.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes and no. My aunt Hazel died. We weren't terribly close, but I was very fond of her.
5. What countries did you visit?
Christ. I don't think I even traveled out of the state this year. That's just wrong.
6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
Money, which will probably require the other thing I lacked this year: a full time job.
7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
August 14th, the blackout.
December 17th, because I am the biggest geek in the world.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
While most people wouldn't consider it an achievement, I think moving in with my mom is mine. It's really given me a chance to fix a lot of the things that were going desperately, painfully wrong in my life. Plus, we've gotten to know each other, which has been fantastic.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being able to stay in school. Not finishing school is the single most frustrating aspect of my life at times.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Depression ruled me from about March to June. Also, I recently did something to the bones and/or tendons in the top of my left foot that's made me gimpy. :P
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My MP3 player.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My mom's. Leaving my stepfather was hard for her, but I think it was a good thing for her. She seems much happier now.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Aside from my government's, my ex-stepfather's.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Survival. Movies. With my state of mind during the spring, the two were often interchangeable.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Do I even need to answer this question? If you don't know, you haven't been paying attention to me. (Psst. There's a hint in answer #7.)
16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
"Bring Me to Life", Evanescence
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or sadder? So much happier.
ii. Thinner or fatter? Who knows? Who cares?
iii. Richer or poorer? Poorer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Living, instead of just existing. Writing.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Crying. Being depressed.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With various members of my family, over at my aunt Vera's house.
22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
Yes, just enough to keep some of my sanity. Just enough to keep me alive.
23. How many one-night stands?
None.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Buffy, Law and Order, 24, South Park
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No, not really.
26. What was the best book you read?
Oh, toooough question. I can give you four. Self-Editing for Fiction Writers, Renni Browne and Dave King. A Game of Thrones, George R. R. Martin. Beloved, Toni Morrison. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, Michael Chabon.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Either Evanescence, or bluegrass, particularly Nickel Creek.
28. What did you want and get?
A real home.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Well, up until December 17th, it was Pirates of the Carribean. ;) So I suppose technically speaking, PotC had more of my love this year, but Return of the King has all of my love now.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
31, and I had to go to my journal archives to remember what I did. I went and saw The Hulk and took myself out to lunch.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Publication.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
"If you don't wear clothes outside, you will freeze and/or you will get arrested."
34. What kept you sane?
I wasn't sane for a good part of the year, but family and friends, new and old, kept me alive when they couldn't keep me sane.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Viggo Mortensen, Johnny Depp, Sean Astin.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The war in Iraq, and the constant media blitz decrying obesity as the worst and most immoral health crisis in the entire history of the world, just managing to edge past the Black Plague in terms of destructive capacity.
37. Who did you miss?
Wicked Ink, en masse.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Probably
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003:
Going home does not always mean going backwards.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I can't think of any, weirdly.
