Wow, this is going around faster than the Dante quiz...
Well hell, if
1. Name one song you hate to admit you like.
"Bye Bye Bye", N'Sync. Shut up. I have to admit to periodically getting sucked into the boy band thing, just because they're so damn watchable.
2. Name two songs that always make you cry.
Okay, bearing in mind that Kleenex commercials can make me cry...
"A Boy and His Frog", Tom Smith. It's filk, and it's basically sung in a really good Kermit the Frog voice, about Jim Henson. I absolutely cannot listen to it without sobbing.
The reprise of "I'll Cover You", from Rent. Maybe because I keep picturing the action on stage while I hear it, but I lose it every time.
3. Name three songs that turn you on.
"The Only Time", Nine Inch Nails. Something about the line, "The devil wants to fuck me in the back of his car" gets me every time.
"Lady Marmalade", from Moulin Rouge. I hate being a follower like this, but damn. I also just like songs about women being aggressive. ;)
"Yes I Am", Melissa Etheridge. See above, aggressive women.
4. Name four songs that always make you feel good.
"Bring Me to Life", Evanesence. Love that song. Love it. I'm verging on obsession here.
"La Vie Boheme", Rent. There's really nothing like singing, "To faggots, lezzies, dykes, cross dressers too.." at the top of your lungs to make you grin.
"If I Had a Million Dollars", Barenaked Ladies. Oh come on, who can't get a big smile when they hear, "But not a real green dress, that's cruel..." Well, in context, anyway.
"Chickenman", Indigo Girls. Title aside, this song kicks some serious ass. And the live version? Blows me away. Great harmony.
5. Name five songs you couldn't ever do without.
"Possession", Sarah McLachlan. That song is so wound up in so many moments of my life, good and bad.
"Drift Away", Dobie Gray. I described this earlier tonight to someone as one of the best songs ever written. I don't know what it is about it, but it just grabs me and shakes the heck out of me.
"Ghost", Indigo Girls. Again, vitally important too, gotten me through (in some ways, PUSHED me through) some of the most important times of my life.
"Pictures at an Exhibition", Mussoursgky. Had to have at least one classical piece on here somewhere, and this is absolutely one of my favorites.
"We Are", Sweet Honey in the Rock. Lovely, lovely song. And I'd have to get my a cappella fix in there somewhere.
Whew. You know, it took me all damn night to write this.
