6. The Tao of Pooh, Benjamin Hoff*

This book was honestly my introduction to Eastern thought. It's a pleasant little book to read, but I don't think I got as much out of it this time as I did the first time I read it, about four or five years ago. It's a little too simple, a little too light and fluffy to be satisifying. Still, as an introduction, it's not bad. I'm wondering where to go from here--probably nowhere until after school stops draining my brain.

I loved this book. My friend who is deeply into philosophy lent it to me. It was the first book of Eastern thought I had ever read. Just by reading it and learning about the characters in Winnie the Pooh, I learned about people I already know. Not that this is what I strive for, but it helped me learn what kind of friends I have, how they are, and how they should be. How I should be. Hoff explains the book generously, "explaining the principles of Taoism through Winnie the Pooh, and explaining the principles of Winnie the Pooh through Taoism." The moral of the book is to be a Pooh Bear. Next time you are in a sticky situation, think, what would Pooh do?
